DRINK MORE SODA! Or not...

Hey, it's Marco! I wonder if soda is still bad if one adds some Jack Daniel's to it? Yummy Yummy in my Tummy! Did you know that the average American drinks 45 gallons of soda every year! Who did that study? Anyway, a small kid's pool can easily be filled with 45 gallons of soda. It is the American culture to drink soda once in a while, but that doesn't mean this sugar drink is good for our health. According to research, drinking soda contributes to the America's obesity problem. In addition, here are four good reasons why you should quit soda from now on:
1) Soda not only fattens your body, it fattens your organs too!
2) One of the elements found in soda is flame retardant!
3) Drinking too much soda will turn you into a lab rat!
4)Drinking soda causes bone loss and dental decay!

Now you know. Read on...

DEBUNKING HEALTH PRODUCTS!

Hey, it's Marco! Deception is rampant in the food industry, and as a result, typical retailer shelves are full of products that are marketed as having health benefits, despite the fact that most of them are more damaging to us than the "unhealthy" products that they replace.  As a general rule, you should beware whenever you see labels such as "diet", "sugar free", "fat free","no trans fats", "flax", or "with omega 3".  These are booby traps...er, or should I say "booty traps?" Because of the FDA's unique way of redefining terms to benefit an industry that will happily poison and deceive us, none of these terms usually mean what a reasonable person would suspect, when they are seen on food labels.
Debunk it!

Another Angry Mommy takes on School Lunch! And Wins!

Hey, it's Marco! Sugary sodas, Franken Pizza, Fried Tater Tots! Oh My! What's next? Beer?
After a year of eating school lunches, Mrs. Q survived to blog about it.
She works at an urban school in the Midwest, where she ate bagel dogs (yes, that's an entree), yellowish meatloaf and chicken tenders, which she likened to "squirts of chicken foam."
With spork in hand, her mission was to chronicle the $3 school lunches on her blog, Fed Up With Lunch. Every afternoon, Mrs. Q -- who asked to remain anonymous out of concern for her job (to think one may lose their job for doing the right thing!) -- photographed the lumps on her orange school lunch tray, and shared her observations about the food and how it affected students. How many sugar packets are in that biggie size soda?

Hey, it's Marco! Would you believe a staggering 26 packets in just one large soda!
The fact is that a diet filled with refined sugars and high-glycemic simple carbs causes the inflammation that’s at the center of our centuries biggest health threat…the triple epidemics of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. And you wonder why your significant other "gots" dat big ole bootay!
Added sugars have no nutritional value other than providing calories. Research shows that high added sugar intake is inversely associated with reduced intake of several vitamins, minerals and fiber. In other words, people eat sugary foods and drinks instead of nutrition-dense foods. Other research shows that because calories in liquid form are less satiating than in solid food, they increase the total amount of calories people consume each day. But worse, consumption of added sugars is linked to weight gain, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. We’ve simply got to start making better choices for ourselves…and our kids…because lives may literally depend on it. Oh, and get this, the average person in America takes in about 150 pounds of sugar each year! Sweet! Add the fact that our water is contaminated with fluoride and you'll see why my Dentist drives a nicer car than I do!
