Cranky Old Man... A Poem

When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in an Australian country town, it was believed that he had nothing left of any value.
Later, when the nurses were going through his meagre possessions, They found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital.

One nurse took her copy to Melbourne .. The old man's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christmas editions of magazines around the country and appearing in mags for Mental Health. A slide presentation has also been made based on his simple, but eloquent, poem.

And this old man, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this 'anonymous' poem winging across the Internet.

Cranky Old Man

What do you see nurses? . . .. . .What do you see?
What are you thinking .. . when you're looking at me?
A cranky old man, . . . . . .not very wise,
Uncertain of habit .. . . . . . . .. with faraway eyes?
Who dribbles his food .. . ... . . and makes no reply.
When you say in a loud voice . .'I do wish you'd try!'
Who seems not to notice . . .the things that you do.
And forever is losing . . . . . .. . . A sock or shoe?
Who, resisting or not . . . ... lets you do as you will,
With bathing and feeding . . . .The long day to fill?
Is that what you're thinking?. .Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse .you're not looking at me.
I'll tell you who I am . . . . .. As I sit here so still,
As I do at your bidding, .. . . . as I eat at your will.
I'm a small child of Ten . .with a father and mother,
Brothers and sisters .. . . .. . who love one another
A young boy of Sixteen . . . .. with wings on his feet
Dreaming that soon now . . .. . . a lover he'll meet.
A groom soon at Twenty . . . ..my heart gives a leap.
Remembering, the vows .. .. .that I promised to keep.
At Twenty-Five, now . . . . .I have young of my own.
Who need me to guide . . . And a secure happy home.
A man of Thirty . .. . . . . My young now grown fast,
Bound to each other . . .. With ties that should last.
At Forty, my young sons .. .have grown and are gone,
But my woman is beside me . . to see I don't mourn.
At Fifty, once more, .. ...Babies play 'round my knee,
Again, we know children . . . . My loved one and me.
Dark days are upon me . . . . My wife is now dead.
I look at the future ... . . . . I shudder with dread.
For my young are all rearing .. . . young of their own.
And I think of the years . . . And the love that I've known.
I'm now an old man . . . . . . .. and nature is cruel.
It's jest to make old age . . . . . . . look like a fool.
The body, it crumbles .. .. . grace and vigour, depart.
There is now a stone . . . where I once had a heart.
But inside this old carcass . A young man still dwells,
And now and again . . . . . my battered heart swells
I remember the joys . . . . .. . I remember the pain.
And I'm loving and living . . . . . . . life over again.
I think of the years, all too few . . .. gone too fast.
And accept the stark fact . . . that nothing can last.
So open your eyes, people .. . . . .. . . open and see.
Not a cranky old man .
Look closer . . . . see .. .. . .. .... . ME!!

Growing Older is a Wonderful, Beautiful dream... Love "YOU"

A legend tells of a man who used to carry water every day to his village, using two large pitchers tied on either end of a piece of wood, which he placed across his shoulders.
One of the pitchers was older than the other and was full of small cracks; every time the man came back along the path to his house, half of the water was lost.
For two years, the man made the same journey. The younger pitcher was always very proud of the way it did its work and was sure that it was up to the task for which it had been created, while the other pitcher was mortally ashamed that it could carry out only half its task, even though it knew that the cracks were the result of long years of work.
So ashamed was the old pitcher that, one day, while the man was preparing to fill it up with water from the well, it decided to speak to him.
We all, at some point, grow old and acquire other qualities, and these can always be turned to good advantage.
“I wish to apologize because, due to my age, you only manage to take home half the water you fill me with, and thus quench only half the thirst awaiting you in your house.”
The man smiled and said:
“When we go back, be sure to take a careful look at the path.”
The pitcher did as the man asked and noticed many flowers and plants growing along one side of the path.
“Do you see how much more beautiful nature is on your side of the road?” the man remarked. “I knew you had cracks, but I decided to take advantage of them. I sowed vegetables and flowers there, and you always watered them. I’ve picked dozens of roses to decorate my house, and my children have had lettuce, cabbage and onions to eat. If you were not the way you are, I could never have done this. We all, at some point, grow old and acquire other qualities, and these can always be turned to good advantage.”

You ever "Thank" the People who help you out the most?

Marco here... Think about this for yourself. How many times in life do you pass the people who help you out the most? The people who come out of the far corners of your life just when you need them the most and pack your parachutes for you? The people who go the extra mile, the people who don’t look for the kudos or the accolades or the achievement medal or even the bonus check—the folks who are just out there packing parachutes?
So here’s what I want to challenge you to do. Look around your organization for the people who might not be the ‘Top Guns’ of your organization, the loud and brazen leaders, but the ones who support the system that enables the Top Guns to fly. And if something goes wrong it will be because they did their job that no one gets hurt or a customer doesn’t go neglected.
This week find 5 parachute packers in your organization and tell them how much you appreciate them and how important are the things they do for the organization. Because, in the end, it might just be them who save your life or your business, or at least save the day.

Gratitude!

YOU'RE POOPING THE WRONG WAY! REALLY. YOU ARE.

Pop a "Squat," the right way!

America is pooping the wrong way.

For many thousands of years, our ancestors defecated wherever they wanted; a bit like horses or dogs in this respect. If the pooper sought privacy, all he or she had to do was find a shielding bush (preferably one without thorns) and "pop a squat."

It's not the devil-may-care aspect of defecation that we should return to, of course. Modern sanitation and sewer systems have been an undeniable boon to the health of mankind. We should, however, return to the squatting position.

The body... relies on a bend between the rectum--where feces builds up--and the anus--where feces comes out. When we're standing up, the extent of this bend, called the anorectal angle, is about 90 degrees, which puts upward pressure on the rectum and keeps feces inside.
In a squatting posture, the bend straightens out, like a kink ringed out of a garden hose, and defecation becomes easier, or so I'm told...

THE SEVEN DISEASES! All Are Attitudes btw...

And a big "THANK YOU" to the great Hal Urban

1) Self-centeredness:
A "me first" attitude and approach to life. Thinking the world revolves around you. Always having to have your own way. Thinking the world should devote itself to meeting your needs. All the other diseases (attitudes) have this as their root.
2) Boredom:
Being dependent on others for making life interesting. Having "nothing" to do. Boredom comes from the inside, not the outside. Example: "Reading is boring." The boredom is in the person, not the reading material. Only boring people get bored.
3) Self-pity:
Feeling sorry for yourself (much different than genuine sorrow). Moping, complaining, whining, moaning, and groaning about the disappointments of life. Letting it become a cycle of self-defeating thinking and behavior.
4) Destructive thinking:
Choosing negative thoughts and then dwelling on them. Poisoning your own mind - and probably the atmosphere around you. Focusing on what's wrong in the world, in others, and in you. Negative thoughts almost always lead to negative and self-defeating behavior.
5) Dishonesty:
If you're being dishonest, you're not being real. When you're not real, you're not a complete or whole person. Being dishonest retards personal growth and prevents healthy self-esteem. It also ruins relationships and reputations. "When I lose mine honor I lose myself" - Shakespeare.
6) Resentment:
This is anger that's held on to too long. Carrying grudges is unhealthy. Psychologists call it carrying "excess baggage" - extra weight that serves no purpose. Resentment is also self-defeating. It's like choosing to poison yourself. Only the person carrying the grudge gets hurt.
7) Discouragement:
Quitting, and usually giving up, too soon. Literally, it means "lack of courage." Disappointment is normal, but discouragement is letting it get the best of you, letting it defeat you. It prevents you from moving forward.

Wayne Dyer on Purpose

Hey, it's Marco! I bet you didn't know that having a greater purpose in life may help stave off the harmful effects of plaques and tangles associated with Alzheimer's disease, according to a new study by researchers at Rush University Medical Center. Don't have a purpose? Find one!

THE STRANGEST SECRET...

Have you ever wondered why so many people work so hard and honestly without ever achieving anything in particular, and why others don't seem to work hard, yet seem to get everything? They seem to have the "magic touch." You've heard people say, "Everything he or she touches turns to gold." Have you ever noticed that a person who becomes successful tends to continue to become more successful? And, on the other hand, have you noticed how someone who's a failure tends to continue to fail? If you take 100 individuals who start even at the age of 25, do you have any idea what will happen to those men and women by the time they're 65? These 100 people believe they're going to be successful. They are eager toward life, there is a certain sparkle in their eye, an erectness to their carriage, and life seems like a pretty interesting adventure to them.
But by the time they're 65, only one will be rich, four will be financially independent, five will still be working, and 54 will be broke — depending on others for life's necessities.

IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER AGAIN...

Hey! It's Marco! This isn't really a poem but the first time read it, I was able to relate instantly with Nadine. Although I have yet to reach the prime of my life, come on, I'm barely 47, with nice abs i might say, LOL! I've known long ago that I'd really rather stumble and fall a thousand times than be left in the dark or stare dumbly as I see my own life pass by. If I could live my life over again, I would only change one thing: EVERYTHING! I wish that life came with an instructional manual, one that could be downloaded instantly upon birth. It would tell you everything that you're going to do wrong so that we could immediately make it right! Like, kill the ego! Oh, the ego is there for a reason, but it appears to get us into so much trouble... We're here for a reason, or perhaps several, to live, to love, to make the World a better place so that we don't have to come back! Early Christianity taught reincarnation... What's really weird is that in a very deep mediation, I met the "Masters." And no, I wasn't drinking! I was told that we're here to learn so that when we get to our final destination, our pinnacle of life, we will live in bliss forever!

JUST A THOUGHT! (And a quick one at that...)

Hey! It's Marco! You know what's weird and rather interesting? If I don't feel like running tonight, yet I still go, I'll perform just as well as if I had felt like running. That's amazing, huh? Why is that and what does this mean? Well, if you put your mind and body in motion, the emotion will follow! I heard a great quote today: "People of action are favored by the Goddess of good luck!" Just because I don't feel like doing something, doesn't mean I still can't do it. Think about this. What is it that you think you can't do but really can? Drop some weight? Start a business? Get along with the outlaws, er, I mean the inlaws. Feelings aren't facts! That negative inner dialog is usually nothing more than a lie! (Monkey Mind) Just because you feel tired doesn't mean you are tired! Perhaps these feelings are just fantasy or a psychological game we're playing with ourselves. Are you tired? Are you unhappy? Are you depressed? I didn't think so. Work with me here! I'm doing my best to practice what I preach! These messages are to me, for me, by me, to inspire me to become a better person. The benefit is...they may just help you! And if I'm helping you, I'm helping myself! Nothing is unfair in life! Go! Be! Do! Be strong, live long! And remember, don't count the days, make the days count!

22 Things I'm Learning Right Now...

Hey, it's Marco! Sometimes it seems like the whole purpose of life is just to learn and grow and be better than we were yesterday. We all learn from our mistakes and you know what that means: I'm still learning. Sometimes I think, I pray and I wish that I could go back in time and undo all the hurt I know I've caused. However, that's not possible...yet. All I can do is move forward, and be my best today! If I've ever offended you or I've hurt you in any way, please accept my sincere apologies! My intentions were never meant to harm!
