Why are McDonald's Fries so darn good? Let's find out...

**notice that both of these guys are really fit!

Marco here..  Instead of the standard two ingredients necessary to make french fries-potatoes and oil, there are approximately 17 as reported on the ingredients facts list on the McDonald's website.

They include:
Potatoes, canola oil, hydrogenated soybean oil, safflower oil, natural flavour (vegetable source), dextrose, sodium acid pyrophosphate (maintain colour), citric acid (preservative), dimethylpolysiloxane (antifoaming agent) and cooked in vegetable oil (Canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil with THBQ, citric acid and dimethylpolysiloxane) and salt (silicoaluminate, dextrose, potassium iodide).
At a glance, many of the ingredients above are hazardous to human health, including those which are genetically modified (canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil), hydrogenated (soybean oil), chemically preserved and antifoaming (THBQ, citric acid, dimethylpolysiloxane), and artificially colored (sodium acid pyrophosphate).

How many people do you think have an awareness that McDonald's french fries contain this many ingredients? Thanks for the transparency McDonald's...hopefully it will help wake up more people to the difference between your artificial food and real food.

Why America Has the Cheapest, Most Addictive and Most Nutritionally Inferior Food in the World

As we continue deep inside the $1-trillion-a-year "processed-food-industrial complex," we turn to look at how decades of food science have resulted in the cheapest, most abundant, most addictive and most nutritionally inferior food in the world. And the vitamins and protein added back to this processed food? Well, you might be surprised to know where they come from. That’s the focus of a new book by longtime food reporter Melanie Warner, author of Pandora’s Lunchbox: How Processed Food Took Over the American Meal.

BET YA DIDN'T' KNOW THAT...

Happy Tuesday! I think it's Tuesday. See what happens to your brain when you live at work... Someday, I will have a Life! But until that happens---

Wanna know how soft drinks and fries make so much money? A soda at a fast food restaurant is marked up about 1200 percent. Fries are marked up about 500 percent.

Wanna know how to make a McGriddle? Here's what you'll need:
Cake: Consisting of wheat, flour, vegetable shortening and three different types of sugar.
Egg: Factory farm cancer egg which includes sodium acid pyrophosphate, a leather stain remover.
Cheese: Only buy the processed with preservatives and flavor enhancers. You know, the ones created in a lab somewhere.
Bacon: Make sure that it's real bacon, manufactured with a carcinogenic ingredient known as sodium nitrite. This is used as a color fixer by meat companies to turn packaged meats a bright red color so they look fresh. Fry it all up and eat. Yum.

Did you know that most fast food chemical enhancers include:
Sodium Phosphate: Found in fast food coffee and detergents.
Titanium dioxide: You can find this in dressing and sunscreen.
Dimethylpolysiloxane: (that's my Hunny's maiden name btw) Found in McNuggets and Silicone salt.
Azodicarbonamide: One can always find this tasty little morsel in Subway breads. Oh yeah, it causes asthma.

Critical violations per 100 health inspections:
Did you know that McDonald's restaurants received the most health citations for being the largest offender of hand washing violations? KFC received 102 health citations for having too much mold on their soda nozzles and for serving expired chicken pot pies. Arby's was cited for leaving roast beef at room temperature too long. Dairy Queen employees are constantly caught handling raw meat and then serving their delicious fake ice cream with meat goop on their hands. Wendy's had 84 violations for failure to properly cook food before serving...

Gotta love fast food! Buy a cool lunch box. Take your own lunch! And be glad you have me! Someday I'll be a Sufi Master! (not really...)

JUNK FOOD WILL HIJACK YOUR BRAIN!

Sorry...Don't mean to rant!
A growing body of medical research at leading universities and government laboratories suggests that processed foods and sugary drinks aren't simply unhealthy. They can hijack the brain in ways that resemble addictions to cocaine, nicotine and other drugs. The idea that food may be addictive was barely on scientists' radar a decade ago. Now the field is heating up. Lab studies have found sugary drinks and fatty foods can produce addictive behavior in animals. Brain scans of obese people and compulsive eaters, meanwhile, reveal disturbances in brain reward circuits similar to those experienced by drug abusers. And if that's not bad enough...Listen, our bodies were designed to eat natural foods. Today we get most of our foods from boxes, bags, or drive throughs. Most of what we eat looks the same and tastes the same, plus we can get it in the freezer and canned section of the grocery store any day of the week; which is a testament to the processed nature of our foods. (Can you say, "lazy?") Doesn’t it seem strange that most of the food we eat is made in a lab by scientists instead of by nature? What does this mean for our bodies and our future? In 1903 the hydrogenated process was invented. Since then most if not all foods have been processed to death stripping all good nutrients from our food in order to make it always taste the same and look the same and be the same. A few tips to know and understand whether or not your food is actual food or processed to death…If it’s made after 1903, wrapped in cardboard, tinfoil, or layers of plastic, if it is heavily advertised to get you to eat it, if it’s manufactured, convenient, keeps forever, artificially flavored, always the same, bland and/or gives you instant results it’s probably not real food your body can process. Trans fat, high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, additives, preservatives and artificial flavorings are other things that have contributed to the epidemic degenerative diseases that occur in today’s world.

The Things We Eat...

Hey, it's Marco! Today we're going to take a collective look at all the conflicting warnings and exhortations we hear about what we should and shouldn't eat. It seems everyone has some pet theory that you shouldn't drink milk, or you have to eat organic, or you shouldn't eat "processed" foods, or you must only eat raw. There are always explanations for why this is: We didn't "evolve" to eat this or that; it isn't "natural" to eat something; our digestive systems weren't meant to handle a certain thing. I know what you're thinking: How is it possible to cover all those possible claims in a single "Skeptoid" episode? We're going to do it by stepping back from all of the specific claims and specific foods, way back. We're going to look at food as a whole, and study what it's made of, what those bits are, see what we need and what we don't. And then, with this as a foundation, we'll have the tools to effectively examine any given eating philosophy.
The Things We Eat...

Mark Bittman: What's wrong with what we eat

In this fiery and funny talk, New York Times food writer Mark Bittman weighs in on what's wrong with the way we eat now (too much meat, too few plants; too much fast food, too little home cooking), and why it's putting the entire planet at risk. So...what ever your BS, (Belief System) this is still an excellent video...

IS THE WAY YOU EAT KILLING YOU?

Hey, it's Marco! What do think causes more deaths in the United States each year? YOU DO! The way you eat is literally killing you! Where do you think obesity comes from? One doesn't "catch" obesity! Did fast food make you fat? Nope. All that beer you drink? Nada. How about those chili cheese fries you had this weekend? Niente'! Remember, what goes into your body must be assimilated and then eliminated! In addition to that big fat belly you're carrying around, what else do you think is in there? Read what Mr. Darren Hardy has to say about "the number 2 instrument of death!"

NOT reading this could be Hazardous to your health!

Hey, it's Marco! On the morning of his 42nd birthday, Grabwell Grommet awoke to a peal of particularly ominous thunder. Glancing out the window with his bleary eyes, he saw written in fiery letters:
"SOMEONE IS TRYING TO KILL YOU, GRABWELL GROMMET!"
With shaking hands, Grommet lit his first cigarette of the day. He didn't question the message. You don't question messages like that. His only question was, "Who?"
At breakfast as he salted his fried eggs and buttered his toast, he told his wife, Gratia, "Someone is trying to kill me." "Who?" she asked with horror.
Grommet slowly stirred the cream and sugar into his coffee and shook his head, "I don't know," he said.
Convinced though he was, Grommet wasn't going to the police with his story. He decided his only course was to go about his daily routine and hope somehow to outwit his would-be murderer. He tried to think on the drive to the office. But the frustration of making time by beating lights and switching lanes occupied him wholly. Nor, once behind his desk, could he think a moment what with jangling phones, urgent memos and the problems and decisions piling in as they did each day.
It wasn't until his second martini at lunch that the full terror of his position struck him. It was all he could do to finish his Lasagna Milanese. "I can't panic," he said to himself, lighting his cigar. "I simply must live my life as usual."
So he worked until seven as usual. Drove home fast as usual. Studied business reports as usual. And he took his usual two Seconal capsules in order to get his usual six hours sleep. As days passed, the man fully stuck to his routine. And as the months went by, he began to take a perverse pleasure in his ability to survive.
"Whoever's trying to get me," he'd say proudly to his wife, "hasn't got me yet. I'm too smart for him."
"Oh, please be careful," she'd reply, ladling him a second helping of beef stroganoff. The pride grew as he managed to go on living for years.
But as it must to all men, death came at last to Grabwell. It came at his desk on a particularly busy day. He was 53.
His grief-stricken widow demanded a full autopsy. But it showed only emphysema, arteriosclerosis, duodenal ulcers, cirrhosis of the liver, cardiac necrosis, cerebrovascular aneurysm, pulmonary edema, obesity,
circulatory insufficiency and a touch of lung cancer.
"How glad Grabwell would have been to know," said the widow smiling proudly through her tears, "that he died of natural causes."
