How "Front Groups" confuse the public about Your Health

From the Urban Dictionary’s definition of internet troll: “One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument.” The Urban Dictionary says that trolls do this for their own amusement, and probably some do. But how come I notice more trolling, usually attempting to completely debunk the article’s message, on alternative health sites than the sites that support mainstream medicine or GMOs? Why would anyone bother to waste his or her time, unless there’s a paycheck involved. Posting an article that disputes vaccine lies and discusses their dangers is as sure to attract trolls as much as a thrashing bleeding man who went over board will attract sharks. Attempting to explain the ultimate planetary and personal health horror of GMOs is like swatting a hornets’ nest of ardent pro-GMO trolls.

Dr. Mercola: Visionary or Quackeroo?

He may not have the mainstream name recognition or rock-star appeal of, say, Mehmet Oz (though he has twice been a guest on The Dr. Oz Show). But Mercola’s influence is nonetheless considerable. Each month, nearly two million people click to see the osteopathic physician’s latest musings on the wonders of dietary supplements and minerals (“The 13 Amazing Health Benefits of Himalayan Crystal Salt”), the marvels of alternative therapies (“Learn How Homeopathy Cured a Boy of Autism”), and his take on medical research, from vaccines (“Your Flu Shot Contains a Dangerous Neurotoxin”) to vitamin D (“The Silver Bullet for Cancer?”).Visitors to his site are also treated to heavy doses of the contempt Mercola holds for most things traditional medicine and Big Pharma—the “medical-industrial complex,” he calls it. Many followers are almost evangelical in their support of his message. “If only the world had more Dr. Mercolas!” wrote one in the comments section for “The Thugs of the Medical World,” a Mercola.com article about drug companies. “You are a warrior sir, and your tireless, truthful, and fearless efforts to expose these criminals is much appreciated.” Not surprisingly, the medical establishment sees things differently. Some researchers and doctors say that Mercola steers patients away from proven treatments and peddles pseudoscientific misinformation on topics such as flu shots and fluoridation. In their view, he is resurrecting old myths, such as the threat posed by mercury in dental fillings, and promoting new ones, such as the notion that microwave ovens emit harmful radiation. “The information he’s putting out to the public is extremely misleading and potentially very dangerous,” opines Dr. Stephen Barrett, who runs the medical watchdog site Quackwatch.org. “He exaggerates the risks and potential dangers of legitimate science-based medical care, and he promotes a lot of unsubstantiated ideas and sells [certain] products with claims that are misleading.” Read on... you decide. Personally, I believe the man is pissing people off that don't want the truth to be known!

Don't Put Off the FLU SHOT! The FLU is here! Whatever...

Marco here! Lookie what I found:

"If you've been putting off your annual flu shot, don't delay any longer because an early flu outbreak is hitting the United States, especially the South and Southeast.
Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee are reporting the highest levels of activity, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Although the influenza season usually peaks in January or February, 48 states and Puerto Rico have reported cases, with rates rising fast nationwide, the CDC said this week..."

If you have the flu, it's your fault! How did you spend your Holidays? Drunk? You eat too much? Stress got your back? The only people I know that found themselves sick this Holiday season were the same ones that got sick last year. The same ones that panicked and ran to Walgreens for their flu shot and 10% off banana coupons. The same folks that bought into the fear that some bug is out there waiting to make them sick. All my Friends and Family members, you know the ones, the fine folks that take care of themselves, eat right, exercise, meditate, etc are all healthy! Flu shots. Get yours today...

QUACKBUSTERS, SKEPTICS AND EXPERTS!

Hey Howdy Hey! The "quackbuster" operation is a conspiracy. It's a propaganda enterprise, one part crackpot, two parts evil.  Its sole purpose is to discredit, and suppress, in an "anything goes" attack mode, what is wrongfully named "Alternative Medicine." It has declared war on reality. The conspirators are acting in the interests of, and are being paid, directly and indirectly, by the "conventional" medical-industrial complex. Remember Mercury and fluoride for instance are not poisons for skeptics, and anyone who thinks they are must clearly be a conspiracy nut.
Vaccination is good for you, as are chemotherapy and radiation cancer treatments offered by conventional medicine. If you oppose either of them you are simply a 'quack' or at the least you are an easy target for those who take advantage of your stupidity. Besides, there is NO such thing as the mind-body connection!
The practices of alternative medicine, including "chiropractic, the placebo effect, homeopathy, acupuncture, and the questionable benefits of organic food, detoxification, and ‘natural’ remedies" are a favorite subject of the skeptics. They know that only mainstream medicine should be relied on and everyone who is into those practices really needs to have their head examined.

DOESN'T MATTER IF IT WORKS OR NOT, SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE IS GOING TO BITCH ABOUT IT!

Quacks, Skeptics and Woo Meisters!

Hey, it's Marco! Vaccinate! Don't vaccinate! Vitamin C! No vitamin C! To chemo or not to chemo! Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know, some people never get sick, never get fat and never get hangovers! WTH! I really don't care anymore... I know what works for me! It keeps me well, fit, healthy, and I still look and feel better than most everyone my age...Not that I'm old! I just find it strange that whenever something healthy is found to be beneficial, someone, somewhere always has to bitch about it! Does "chemo" work all the time? No! Does taking mega doses of vitamins work all the time? No! Do vaccines work all the time? No! Listen, we don't live in a perfect world and with the stress of daily life, I'm amazed that anyone has any energy left to get to the gym! So, I'm confused! What's better for me? The fresh squeezed organic juice I make myself at home or the orange crap in the container at the grocery store? (How's that stuff stay fresh anyway...) Should I have an organic, grass fed burger, or stop in at McDonald's for a "home made" Quarter Pounder? When I'm thirsty, should I have an ice cold glass of water, or chug a 55 gallon Big Gulp? And what about all these "beauty" products I use? Organic shampoo any better than Suave? What about deodorant? What's really in that colored stick we have to use to keep us smelling good? Oh yeah, and what about Fluoride? MSG? Artificial sweeteners? Restaurant food?? The list is endless... I'm certainly not preachin' DOOM and GLOOM! But doesn't it just make sense that when we die, we die of old age and natural causes!
