How Beautiful!
Hey, it's Marco! Look around, what do you see? I see Life and it's everywhere. What does that mean? It means that people, plants and animals and pretty much everything else that lives on this planet all make babies. You do, I did, and I expect someday, our children will too. Nuthin' like a good romp in the sack with your darling, lovable, hot spouse, eh? (Your married Spouse, of course for all you pretentious goody two shoes, Ahem...) But what happens when you've let yourself go, just got too busy to stay healthy and find yourself on Pharma drugs? (And no, I've never tried Viagra. Thank Heaven for Testosterone!) Look, common medications can affect sexual functioning for both men and women. Which ones? Well, you MUST ask your doctor when he/she writes your prescription. ASK! "Hey doc, umm, you know, uh, will this drug jack my stuff in the bedroom?" ASK!
One of the most common health issues affecting our sexuality is prescription medication, and most medications have side effects. When these are minimal or trivial, we ignore them. Hey, it happens. But some side effects are major. Got anal leakage? Honey, what's that perfume you're wearing?! When these drugs affect your sexual functioning, ignoring them is difficult. Come on, you can't ignore this stuff!
The most common unwanted effects that drugs have on sexuality involve reduced desire, limited arousal and inhibited or impossible orgasm. Impossible orgasm? That's not fun! Here are common sexual side effects of some popular medications:
Antidepressants: inhibited arousal and orgasm
Antihypertensives: inhibited erection
Anti-inflammatories: inhibited erection, difficult orgasm, increased skin sensitivity
Ulcer medication: limited desire, inhibited erection
Birth control pills: limited desire, decreased lubrication
Allergy and Asthma medications: can have a drying effect inside the body and cause reduced vaginal lubrication
Male baldness drugs: Hey Guys, get this!
• Ejaculation disorders (oopsies!)
• Libido disorders (not tonight honey, you're on your own) ---> (adam and eve dot com)
• Orgasm disorders (still nothing?)
• Erectile dysfunction (life is hard, but you're not)
• Male infertility (well, at least you're savin' on day care)
And the best part about these male baldness drugs? These effects continue even after you stop using the drugs!
And Ladies, you're at risk too! Some medications can adversely impact the ability for you to become aroused or reach orgasm. These meds work on both the brain and the genital tissues. If you were having pleasurable sex before taking medicine and then all of a sudden you can't have an orgasm or have no desire to have sex, I'd bet money that drugs are the culprit! Or your husband's six pack! (Beer?)
Okay, gotta get back to work. Final thoughts: Most doctors, heck, most people aren't going to talk about problems in the bedroom. If you're having no sex drive and you think it might be from your medication, talk to your doctor and just ASK! You'd ask if the drugs made you woozy, so ask if you find your sex drive has gone on vacation!
Just thinkin' about ya... Now you know.
